On Friday, 19/10/2018, the Municipality of Finiq, represented by the Department of Development Planning, Tourism and European Programs, participated in the kick-off meeting to launch Milestones II project, a project funded by the European Programme Interreg – IPA Cross-Border Greece-Albania 2014-2020. The meeting was held in Dodoni, Prefecture of Epirus, and was organized by the lead partner – the Municipality of Dodoni. The meeting aimed at introducing the partners, namely the Municipality of Dodoni, the Municipality of Finiq, the Department of Antiquities of Ioannina and the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage of Vlora, to each-other and also to the activities, work packages and deadlines, as well as discussing organizational issues and collaboration modalities for the successful implementation of all phases of the project.
The Milestones II project, as a continuation of the implemented Milestones I project, aims to foster local economic growth through tourism and culture by means of innovative interventions. Among other things, this project includes the restoration of St Nicholas Church at Mesopotam in order to strengthen its structures and make it a safe site for visitors, the restoration of the cultural centre in Dhrovjan and installation of innovative technological systems for public use, a feasibility study for the future Museum of Finiq, etc. This project will be implemented over a two-year period.
